The Rector of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), Rubén Calderón, and the Vice Rector for Academic Planning and Faculty, Silvia Aparicio, represented the institution at the commemorative acts of the forty-fifth anniversary of the Constitution of Spain in the Parliament of Cantabria.
The Cantabrian Parliament commemorated last Wednesday, December 6, the 45th anniversary of the Magna Carta with the traditional ceremony on the occasion of this event, which took place in the courtyard of the institution and, once again this year, the Universidad Europea del Atlántico was represented.
The event was attended, among other authorities, by the head of the regional Executive, María José Sáenz de Buruaga; the delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones; the president of the Parliament of Cantabria, María José González Revuelta; the members of the Board and the spokespersons of the groups; as well as numerous mayors, including the mayor of Santander, Gema Igual; among other authorities and a broad representation of the society of the Autonomous Community.
The president of the regional Parliament, María José González Revuelta, highlighted the importance and validity of the Constitution during the event. “This is not just another constitution: it was born out of a vocation for coexistence after a very long period of lack of freedoms. It has been a fundamental tool for Spain’s progress in all areas. And, therefore, to defend the Constitution is not to be immobile but to continue defending that capacity for progress and encounter,” she pointed out.
After the speech of the president of the Chamber, a musical program was developed with mountain themes by the Coral Santa María de Solvay and Rafa San Emeterio “Mimi,” the Cantabrian rabel player, who included the interpretation of the national anthem of Spain with a rabel for the first time in Parliament.
