Students of the degree in Journalism (PER) of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO) have screened the documentary ‘El Racing, Una Ilusión Inmortal’ (Racing, An Immortal Illusion) as a commemoration of the ‘plante del Racing’ in the University’s Assembly Hall on the 30th of January.

Through the Specialised Journalism course, taught by Aser Falgán, Head of the Sports section of the Diario Montañés, the group made up of Ana Almarza, José Javier Acevedo, Alfonso Arce, Laura Chiva, Blanca Fernández, Adrián Fernández, Alba Girao, Carlota Iribarnegaray, Félix López, Adrián Martínez, Daniel Martínez, Eduardo Molina, Nacho Mora, Mayely Oré, Alejandro Pescador, Paula Ruiz, Dariel Severino, decided to investigate the darkest era of Racing Santander and capture it in a documentary.

The students began the presentation of the documentary by stating that: ‘The “plante” of Real Racing Club de Santander was not just a protest or a gesture of rebellion, but an act of love that made it clear that the values of sport go beyond the result on the scoreboard. It was a symbol of resilience and unity in the face of adversity, a demonstration of how a fan can save his club when all seems lost. From there, they explained how Ali Syed’s arrival affected the club and the testimonies they used served as the basis for this documentary.

The video was already published on Youtube and in less than a month it has reached almost 15,000 views. This has been the first screening of the documentary and for it they have counted on various testimonies, from the current president of Racing, Manolo Higuera to Miguel Ángel Portugal, former Racing coach. They have also counted with the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Government of Cantabria, Angel Agudo, and the President of the Association of Peñas Racinguistas (APR), Bernardo Costa among others.

Once the documentary had been screened, video testimonies were given by Pablo Pinillos, Mario Fernández and Javier Soria, who explained how they experienced this difficult time for the club and the way in which they dealt with it. It is also worth mentioning that Racing’s institutional representative, Víctor Diego, was also present at the Welcome Day, encouraging the new students to get to know the Campos de Sport and to become part of the Real Racing Club Foundation’s volunteer work.

Finally, a Q&A session was held in which attendees were able to learn more about the production process of the documentary and the anecdotes behind the interviews.
