The team “Metanoia 2.0” is proclaimed winner of the IX edition of the Debate League

The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic,UNEATLANTICO) has celebrated the final of the 9th edition of the Debate League in which the winner of the 8th edition, “Nos pesa el cerebro 200kg” and “Metanoia 2.0” have faced, with Metanoia 2.0 as the winner.

After an intense edition, with prior learning in the 8th course of oratory, it is worth mentioning the participation of “Grupo Frontera” which has won third place and “Contrapunto” which concludes the competition with fourth place.

Throughout all the meetings, students of different grades at UNEATLANTICO had to defend arguments both for and against the question posed: “Does unrestricted immigration favor or weaken the country?”.

In this last meeting, through a draw, the “Metanoia 2.0” team, formed by Paula Díaz-Velarde, Lia Penélope Marzo, Iroska Flamenco and Emilio García, students of Journalism (PER), Audiovisual Communication (CA), Advertising and Public Relations (PRP) and Industrial Organization Engineering (IOI), were against it, while the team of “Nos pesa el cerebro 200kg”, formed by Héctor Diego Somonte, Álvaro Higuera, Jordy Rojals and Mónica Cardeñosa, students of the degrees of Audiovisual Communication (CA), Journalism (PER) and Sciences of Physical Activity and Sport (CAFYD) was in favor. After a fierce debate, the opposing team won.

The award ceremony was carried out by the general secretary, Jesús Peña, the vice-rector of Research and Transfer of Knowledge, Juan Luis Martín, and Loyda Alas, professor at the Polytechnic School. In this line, Luis Eduardo Prado, on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Debate League, took the opportunity to congratulate all the students who have participated in this edition, in which they have demonstrated their ability to speak, competitiveness and argumentation.

Finally, it should be noted the participation of the captain of the winning team, “Metanoia 2.0”, Paula Díaz-Velarde, who won the award for the best speaker for her good performance throughout the competition. The league organizer, Luis Prado, added that “Paula has stood out for her brilliant performance, her ability to defend ideas with conviction and represent the spirit of the Debate League throughout four years of participation”.
