The Rector of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), Mr. Rubén Calderón, appeared before the Commission for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Parliament of Cantabria, in the framework of the processing of the Proposed Law on Youth in Cantabria.
He was invited by the Commission, in response to the proposals of the Parliamentary Groups, which seek to incorporate the knowledge and suggestions of representatives of civil society to enrich the debate on the law.
Rector Calderón’s appearance focused on addressing the fundamental challenges and priorities for the youth of Cantabria and, by extension, for the university community of UNEATLANTICO.
During his speech, he outlined the vision and contributions of the academic institution regarding the main axes of the Proposed Law, including education, access to employment, housing issues and transport facilities for young people in the region. He placed special emphasis on the crucial importance of mental health care, a growing concern and an area in which the university considers it essential to redouble its efforts, a point on which all the parliamentary groups present agreed.
In this line, Calderón also highlighted the value of university studies and internationalisation as key ways to achieve quality training and qualified employment that translates into better working conditions.
At the end, both the Parliamentary Groups and the President of the Commission thanked the Rector for his attendance and the suggestions made by Calderón.
