The Rector of UNEATLANTICO participates in the Plenary Session of the Council of Universities

Rubén Calderón, rector of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), participated in the Plenary Session of the Council of Universities, which discussed the new Royal Decree on the creation of university centres. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant.

The meeting took place at the Faculty of Education of the National Distance Education University (UNED), where the debate focused on the Royal Decree that will establish more stringent requirements for the creation and authorisation of new university institutions in Spain.

The aim of this meeting was to guarantee a quality university system for the next decade. The minister also pointed out that ‘the Spanish government is seeking to reverse the decade of cuts and decline that public universities have suffered’.

During the plenary session, Calderón and the other rectors evaluated the proposals constructively, with the aim of improving the regulations and introducing positive changes. Morant emphasised that ‘this Royal Decree has been improved thanks to ongoing dialogue with all the university stakeholders involved’. Another issue addressed at the meeting was the underfunding of public universities, according to the Autonomous Communities on which they depend.

Finally, the participation of the rector of UNEATLANTICO in the Plenary Council of Universities reaffirms the institution’s commitment to providing quality education and continuous improvement of the higher education system in Spain.
