The Museo Nacional de Antropología Dr. David J. Guzmán (Dr. David J. Guzmán National Museum of Anthropology, MUNA) is hosting the collections “The Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel” and “Las cenas de Gala” (The Gala Dinners), in collaboration with the Obra Cultural de FUNIBER y UNEATLANTICO (Cultural Work of FUNIBER and UNEATLANTICO) and the Ministerio de Cultura de El Salvador (Ministry of Culture of El Salvador) .
This exhibition marks a milestone in the art world and provides an exceptional opportunity to immerse oneself in Dalí’s surrealist universe.
On the one hand, “Las cenas de Gala” consists of 12 photomontages of Dalí inspired by a visit to Maxim’s restaurant in Paris. On the other hand, “The Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel” integrates a set of 25 color lithographs on Japanese paper based on the satirical and humanist work of the French writer François Rabelais.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mariemm Pleitez, Minister of Culture; Astrid Bahamond, National Director of Museums and Exhibition Halls; Alejandro Herrera, Executive Director of FUNIBER El Salvador; and Danilo Villalta, Director of MUNA.
Salvador Dalí is considered one of the main representatives of the surrealist movement. After the ribbon cutting, a tour of the magnificent works was offered where Astrid Bahamond narrated how surrealism seeks to unravel the depths of the irrational and navigate in the hidden depths of the unconscious.
The tour was followed by the traditional toast to the success of the inauguration of such important works. The exhibition will allow thousands of Salvadorans to learn about art and its surrealist trend by having close to them the works of the greatest representative of surrealism and, undoubtedly, the artist who dominated this trend for a long time.
This fact will not only offer the possibility of generating national culture but also opens the possibility for many young people to have access to first class works of art and learn about their greatness, being this a tool to motivate young people to awaken their interest in art and love for culture and national identity.
