The Cultural Work of the the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLANTICO) and Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (FUNIBER), in collaboration with the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (UNIC), the Embassy of Spain in Angola, the transport company AJS, the Institute of Education Sciences in Huíla (ISCED) and with the sponsorship of ENSA Seguros de Angola, inaugurated on 13 August the exhibition of engravings «La Conquista del Cosmos» by the artist Salvador Dalí at the ISCED facilities in Lubango, province of Huíla. It can be visited free of charge until 31 August.

The exhibition continues its tour of Angola, after its first stop on 10 July at the Casa das Artes in Talatona, Luanda. The one-year tour will also include stops in the provinces of Namibe, Benguela, Bié and Huambo, to conclude in Luanda.

The inaugural programme included a formal reception, hosted by presenter Sérgio Rodrigues, followed by speeches by ISCED Chair Dr. Hélder Bahu and ENSA Executive Director Dr. Amália Quintão. The cultural moment was marked by a fado performance by ISCED student Afrodite.

Representing FUNIBER and UNIC, Dr. José Amaro highlighted FUNIBER’s strong and sincere commitment to Angola, especially in the year of the country’s 50th anniversary of independence. He highlighted the role of UNIC as a space for knowledge and construction of the future, and the exhibition of Dalí as a bridge to unite people and affirm the Ibero-American culture as a linguistic and cultural space of global relevance.

The engraving collection «The Conquest of the Cosmos» consists of eleven dry-pointed engravings, all signed and numbered in pencil. Two sketches and an original poster from the 1974 exhibition are also included. This collection is considered one of the most important works of Salvador Dalí’s career. Each of the works that make up the series represents a surreal picture of the cosmos, including planets, galaxies and stars, along with other elements of Dalí’s imagination (ants, elephants, soft clocks, etc.).
