The Association of Journalists of Cantabria (APC) visited the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO) with the aim of making itself known among the students of the degrees in Audiovisual Communication (CA) and Journalism (PER). During this day, some of the representatives of the association were present: Lola Gallardo, Maribel Torre and Enrique Palacio, all of them with great professional careers.
The talk began with a presentation of who the speakers were. First of all, Lola Gallardo spoke, president of the APC and with a professional career of more than 30 years in El Diario Montañés, where she holds the position of Section Chief of eldiariomontanes.es and teaches at UNEATLANTICO. Afterwards, Maribel Torre, member of the board of directors of the association and with a career of more than 20 years working in communication offices, took the floor. Finally, Enrique Palacio, APC’s treasurer and Real Racing Club’s Press Officer, spoke.
All of them shared their professional experiences and underlined the relevance of professional associations as platforms of support and continuous development for journalists, being this a complicated world, they said.
The Association of Journalists of Cantabria was founded in 1914 with the decisive support of the directors and editors of the three main newspapers of the time: La Atalaya, El Cantábrico and El Diario Montañés. The then Press Association was a pioneer in the guild defense of Spanish journalists, this being its main objective.
Joining the APC is an opportunity to meet people in the sector, which is very important, especially when you are starting out, they stressed. That is why the association is in charge of organizing talks for journalists to get to know each other better. In addition, something to highlight, apart from multiple advantages such as the Journalist Card, the agreements or the availability of a Family Doctor, is the employment exchange, something fundamental and of interest to anyone who is starting out.
