On November 10, the Embassy of Angola in Madrid celebrated the 48th anniversary of the country’s independence with the convening of an official reception in the capital of Spain in which participated the Iberoamerican University Foundation and the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), represented on that occasion by the director of Institutional Relations of FUNIBER and the Cátedra de Estudios Iberoamericanos y de la Iberofonía (Chair of Ibero-American Studies and Iberophony), of which UNIC is part, Dr. F. Álvaro Durántez, professor at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO).
At the solemn ceremony, which was attended by important personalities of the accredited foreign diplomatic corps, H.E. the ambassador of the Republic of Angola. Mr. Alfredo Dombe described the excellent relations between the two countries in different sectors. Referring to the field of higher education, the high diplomatic representative highlighted the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza “in the city of Cuito,” highlighting the important range of undergraduate degrees offered at the university.
Likewise, the Angolan ambassador made a relevant statement by affirming that “the creation of this university, the first bilingual higher education institution in Angola, in the year 2020, is a demonstration of the important role played by our country in the African continent by participating in the perfect articulation of the multinational space of Iberophony.” Thus, thanks to the diplomatic recognition of FUNIBER and UNIC’s work in Angola, the potential of the African country in the construction of a multinational community of Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries from all continents is also underlined.
