The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) kicks off its ninth edition of the Debate League. This year, the topic to be debated among students is: ‘Does unrestricted immigration strengthen or weaken the country?’
The Debate League, organised once again by lecturer Luis Eduardo Prado, is an activity that focuses on integrating intellectual challenge and the educational process of each student, giving them the opportunity to evaluate and strengthen some of their soft skills, such as communication, public speaking, creativity, improvisation, research, learning ability and constant growth.
For the inaugural debate, the teams ‘Residencia UNEATLANTICO’ argued in favour and ‘Metanoia 2.0’ argued against.
As is the annual tradition, prior to the Debate League, UNEATLANTICO offered a free in-person public speaking course. This training consisted of one talk per day, each with a different speaker, including: Mónica Bóveda, trainer in public speaking techniques, Ángel Domingo, Technical Director of Communication for the Spanish University Debate League (LEDU), who had already taken part in previous editions. They were joined by Jorge Santiago Barnés, political consultant, Doctor of Political Communication and President of the Educational Institution for Analysis, Leadership, Political Studies and Humanism (ALEPH).
As in previous editions, all registered teams are made up of a minimum of three members and a maximum of five, with one of them assuming the role of captain, responsible for releasing their respective teams and maintaining communication with the referee and the jury.
