Students of UNEATLANTICO attend the talk by Marc Marginedas organized by the College of Journalists

The students of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic) (UNEATLANTICO) of the degrees in Audiovisual Communication (CA), Advertising and Public Relations (PRP) and Journalism (PER) attended the talk of the journalist Marc Marginedas. This meeting was attended by the director of communication degrees, Helena Garay, coordinator Ángela Ruiz and teacher Olga Agüero.

This talk was held within the programming of the Matilde Zapata Journalism Forum, which is organized by the College of Journalists of Cantabria and constitutes a space open to citizens. During these meetings, the profession and current information is analyzed through the eyes of experts and professionals in journalism and communication. It also examines the role of media and the evolution of this discipline.

Marginedas, war correspondent and specialist in the former Soviet Union and the Arab-Islamic world, gave the talk accompanied by the Cantabrian journalist Fernando García. The purpose of the meeting was to review his extensive professional career spanning more than two decades covering the main wars, revolts and conflicts of today.

The journalist began his professional career as a graduate in Information Sciences and was later appointed correspondent of the newspaper in Morocco and Algeria, where he covered the civil war that was developing at that time. He was later sent to Moscow, where he reported on the second war in Chechnya. Becoming a correspondent in Afghanistan during coverage of the Iraq war, he was kidnapped for half a year. After his release, he went to Ukraine to warn of the political conflicts that were beginning to develop.

Thanks to his long career, the journalist recently published the book «Russia against the world», in which he details the methods that the Kremlin has used to consolidate its power. He had previously published «Journalism on the battlefield: 15 years on the trail of jihad» and starred in the documentary «Return to Raqqa», which recounts his experience in Syria for six months.

Marginedas has received numerous awards throughout her professional career, such as the Cirilo Rodríguez for best foreign correspondent, the National Communication Award in 2013 and the Luka Brajnovic Prize for Journalism in 2019.

Thanks to its collaboration with various institutions, such as the College of Journalists of Cantabria, UNEATLANTICO continues to strengthen the link between its students and professionals in the sector, Facilitating direct contact with the working environment and offering a practical and up-to-date view of the various areas of their training.
