Students of the Primary Education degree carried out a complementary activity on the beaches of the municipality of San Vicente de la Barquera

The second year students of the degree in Primary Education (PE) of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico ( European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) visited the beaches of the municipality of San Vicente de la Barquera, as part of a complementary activity of the subject ‘Didactics of Experimental Sciences’ taught by the teacher Samuel Allende Monje.

This initiative was carried out with the aim of continuing to explore the lessons taught in class, such as the possibilities offered by the natural environment as a provider of learning opportunities and connecting these experiences with the curricular elements and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the activity, as well as touring the natural spaces of Playa del Tostadero, Playa del Rosal and the road that connects them, the importance of promoting eco-social awareness and measures to preserve the environment in primary education was addressed.

The students were able to experience first-hand how a visually impaired student would experience this activity, through a dynamic that combined vision deprivation with confidence-building and teamwork. In addition, the importance of emergency measures and essential first aid in the event of an accident in a natural environment was highlighted.

UNEATLANTICO continues to demonstrate its commitment to the integral development of its students, offering educational experiences that enrich learning and reinforce the connection with the natural environment. Through these initiatives, the university continues to provide opportunities for students not only to broaden their academic knowledge, but also to acquire essential skills in their training as future educators. The integration of the Sustainable Development Goals and ecological awareness in the activities reinforce UNEATLANTICO’s commitment to the training of professionals committed to sustainability and holistic education.
