Students of the Audiovisual Communication and Advertising and Public Relations degrees visit the San Sebastian Film Library

The students of the degrees in Audiovisual Communication (CA) and Advertising and Public Relations (PRP) of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), made a visit to the Film Library of San Sebastian. This activity was promoted and organised by Ignacio Solana, lecturer in the Audiovisual Communication degree, who accompanied the students during the visit.

On arriving at the site, the students were welcomed by Jhon López Barrena, director curator of the film library, who was their guide during the visit. Before starting the visit, he gave them an introduction to the function of the film library, as well as to the projects that are currently being organised within it. Following the same, he showed them around the facilities, where the students were able to meet some of the staff of the film library along with the job functions of each one of them.

During the visit, the students were able to see other areas such as the projection rooms, the film archive, the production offices and the analogue film conservation areas, among others. In addition, they were shown various old cameras, film equipment, film scripts and the warehouses where the films are stored.

Following this, the students had the opportunity to learn about the history of cinema, with an emphasis on Spanish cinema and audiovisual technology, digitisation systems and software and the way in which analogue and digital film is preserved, among other topics.

At the end of the tour through the film library, the students were directed to a screening room where they were shown a series of historical short films representing the progress of cinema from its beginnings to the present day.

The tour has helped to broaden the students’ training in many areas of filmmaking. With the organisation of these visits, UNEATLANTICO seeks to train its students not only in the academic field, but also to teach them what their future career may be.
