Students of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO) of the degrees in Human Nutrition and Dietetics (NHD), Food Science and Technology (CTA), Agricultural and Food Industries (IIAA), and Gastronomy (CG), together with an Erasmus exchange group from France, made an educational outing to the Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP) La Granja, located in Heras.
The visit, organized as part of the Animal Raw Materials Production course, was guided by the teacher María Eléxpuru Zabaleta.
The main purpose of this outing was to familiarize students with the practical application of the theoretical knowledge acquired in class, by immersing them in the center’s facilities and equipment, which include spaces for growing vegetables and the zootechnical management of cattle and poultry.
During the visit, students explored various aspects of crop and livestock production. In the Plant Production area, they observed the nurseries and learned about the management of different crops. In Animal Production, in the dairy cow section, they learned about the operation of a milking robot that analyzes the quality of the milk, and visited the dairy, where cheese and other dairy products are produced. They also toured the beef cows facilities, where they learned about their feeding and the process for meat production, as well as the area dedicated to poultry breeding.
In this regard, it should be noted that the teachers of UNEATLANTICO are concerned with bringing students closer to the reality of their professional sector through guided visits to companies such as this one.
