Dr Paula Quijano, academic director of the Degree in Translation and Interpreting and Applied Languages (TEL) at the Universidad Europea del Atlántitco (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), participated in the VII Seminar on Literary Theory and Comparative Literature of the Research Group in Applied Semiotic Studies (GIESA) organised by the University of La Laguna, in Tenerife.
Quijano participated online in the Final Colloquium, in a round table discussion together with Francisco J. Clemente Martín, PhD in Philosophy and moderated by Darío Hernández, PhD in Hispanic Philology. During the round table, they debated the role of religion in literature. For her part, Quijano shared her research on religious hierophanies as a manifestation of the mystical in the profane through her research on religion through translation as a Doctor in Comparative Literature and Literary Studies.
In addition, she presented her own research on the relationship between religion in Austrian society in the 19th century and the way in which this question still persists or can be extrapolated to today’s society.
Despite being an online session, there was a large audience and participation. Quijano noted his amazement: ‘I was pleasantly surprised that there were so many people both listening and in the final round of questions’.
Finally, Quijano declares that ‘it was an enriching experience in every sense, not only for sharing my research but also for analysing and studying these issues from other perspectives thanks to my colleagues’.
