Dr Paula Quijano, academic director of the degree in Translation and Interpreting and Applied Languages (TEL) at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), participated and spoke in person at the 7th Symposium on Translation and Interpreting from/into German (STIAL), organised by the University of Salamanca.
Her presentation was entitled ‘Tell me how you translate and I’ll tell you where you’re from: diatopic variation in the translation of Kafka’s Metamorphosis’, in which she based the information presented on the methodology and results of the field study for her doctoral thesis.
This topic mainly concerns the approach and methodology of the field study she carried out in her research to assess the degree of reading comprehension of current translations of Kafka’s novel The Metamorphosis, which are affected by the presence of diatopia, linguistic differences that arise due to geographical variations.
In addition to his participation, I took the opportunity to attend the other presentations to network, strengthen professional relationships, and learn about the current state of affairs regarding translation from German into Spanish. It should also be noted that during his trip, he held a meeting with the research group at the University of Córdoba to exchange opinions and discuss possibilities for future collaboration in the field of research with UNEATLANTICO.
