The third year students of the degree in Audiovisual Communication (CA) of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), Victor Diaz, Nerea Perez, Sandra Roger and Samuel Abascal, premiere their documentary short film “KANKEL, the heart of the square” in the auditorium of CASYC.
This documentary short film, which was born as an exercise of the subject “Direction of Photography” under the tutelage of Helena Garay, teacher and head of the Cultural Extension area, follows the life of Miguel Angel Perez, known as “Kankel”.
Kankel, the oldest corralero in Spain, is an endearing character from Santander who shares, with his characteristic sense of humor, stories about his childhood, his work as a corralero and gravedigger, his family, friends and his farewell to the bullring. Kankel’s narrations are accompanied by a series of photographs that visually enrich his story.
The direction and direction of photography of the documentary has been in charge of Víctor Díaz and Nerea Pérez, while the production has been managed by Nerea Pérez, Sandra Roger, Víctor Díaz and Samuel Abascal.
The short film, initially conceived as part of an academic exercise, has not only been premiered at CASYC, but has also been nominated at the III Short Film Festival of UNEATLANTICO. During the gala, which took place at the University’s auditorium, it received the award for best editing and was highlighted as the best documentary short film. This last award was presented to them by the guest of honor Rodolfo Montero de Palacio, Spanish director, screenwriter, film producer and winner of two Goya Awards.
On the other hand, the work has been selected to participate in the “Torre en Corto. XXV Short Film Festival of Torrelavega”, to be held from June 26 to 29 at the Teatro Municipal Concha Espina.
