Students in the second year of the degree in Journalism at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) have visited the facilities of COPE Cantabria, where they have learned firsthand how the radio works and the possibilities it offers.
The students of Journalism of UNEATLANTICO, accompanied by the professor and Dean of the Colegio de Periodistas (College of Journalists), Olga Agüero, made an enriching visit to the facilities of COPE Cantabria in the framework of the subject “Theory and Practice of Journalistic Genres (Interpretation and Opinion)”.
Álex García, a UNEATLANTICO graduate and editor at COPE, shared with the future journalists his personal experience once he finished his degree and the opportunities he received at the radio station. In addition, Juancho Castillo, the chain’s commercial director, offered valuable advice to the students about the field of journalism, stressing the crucial importance of taking advantage of every opportunity that comes their way.
After a detailed presentation on the nature of radio, its evolution over time, and the fundamental role it plays in the field of journalism, the students were given the opportunity to participate in a live program: “Mediodía COPE,” (Midday COPE) presented by Cristina Jimeno, Jaime del Olmo, and Santiago Ruiz de Arzúa, voices of 95.7 FM. During their assistance, the students shared the different motivations that led them to study journalism, detailing the field in which each of them intends to specialize, including a goal story by one of the students who wants to enter the world of sports journalism.
This experience has been a positive opportunity for future communicators to acquire a real understanding of the inner workings of a media outlet, thus familiarizing them with the work environment and some of their future colleagues.
