Students of the first and second year of the degree in Journalism (PER) of the The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) visited last Thursday 27th March the facilities of COPE Cantabria, where they had the opportunity to see first hand how the radio works and the possibilities it offers.
The UNEATLANTICO Journalism students, accompanied by the teacher and Dean of the College of Journalists, Olga Agüero, made this visit, within the framework of the subject ‘Theory and Practice of Journalistic Genres (Interpretation and Opinion)’.
Álex García, a graduate student of UNEATLANTICO and current editor at COPE, explained how he ‘fell in love with this channel, having it clear from the very first moment that he wanted to work in the media’. He also recommended to the students present how to gain access to the master’s degree offered by COPE and stressed the importance of taking advantage of all the opportunities that arise.
After a detailed presentation on the nature of radio, its evolution over time and the fundamental role it plays in the field of journalism, the students were given the opportunity to participate in a live programme: ‘Herrera en COPE Cantabria’, where they were able to see first-hand how the station works and thus have their first contact with radio. The intervention of the students who had the opportunity to speak can be heard from minute 13:49 onwards.
This experience has been a positive opportunity for the future communicators to gain a real understanding of the inner workings of a media outlet, thus familiarising themselves with the working environment and some of their future colleagues.
