The students of the second year of the degree in Journalism (PER) of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), have visited the recently renovated facilities of Cadena SER Cantabria and have attended a live news bulletin.
The director, Mónica Revilla, explained to them how the station works, which includes, in addition to SER Cantabria, 40 Principales and Cadena Dial, among others. She also showed them the facilities and allowed them to watch the news bulletin live, with Fermín Mier and María Gutiérrez.
Cadena SER has a multimedia newsroom where the microphones are the protagonists and coexist with news content on the web and regional news products for the Prisa group: the newspaper El País and the sports newspaper As.
The content director, Fermín Mier, shared with the students some reflections on journalism and explained that the basis for being a good journalist is knowing how to write correctly. He downplayed the importance of other technical and voice-over skills learned in the profession and encouraged them to read, keep abreast of current affairs and improve their writing skills. In addition, he also emphasized the possibility of internships at the network and encouraged the kids to overcome their fears; what you may see as difficult to achieve can become your day-to-day life.
This experience complements the training that future journalists receive in the History of Journalism course taught by Olga Agüero. It represents an invaluable opportunity for future communicators to gain a genuine understanding of the inner workings of a media outlet and to familiarize themselves with the options available to them.
