Dr. José Ramos Vivas, lecturer and researcher at the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), has given several lectures at the International Master in Marine Cultures, taught at the ECOAQUA Institute of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).
The lectures given by the lecturer were related to the antibiotic resistance of bacteria, with special emphasis on the problem of the increase of resistant bacteria in marine and continental aquaculture, the problem of antibiotic residues in the marine environment, and the correct use of antibiotics in both human and veterinary medicine, along with the danger posed by the increase of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in all these sectors.
This master’s degree takes place in the Marine Science and Technology Park of Taliarte over two years, and is recognised as one of the most prestigious in the country, given that it is one of the few international university master’s degrees in aquatic spice cultivation that is offered mainly in Spanish. It is jointly organised by the ULPGC, through the Faculty of Marine Sciences, and the CIHEAM in Zaragoza.
The master’s degree has a highly international student body, with students from countries such as Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria, as well as students from different Spanish universities. Upon completion, students who have passed the relevant academic tests receive the Postgraduate Specialisation Diploma awarded by the CIHEAM.
Ramos’ participation in the International Master in Marine Cultures reinforces the commitment of the European University of the Atlantic to promote quality and up-to-date education.
