A group of international students from the Universidad Europea del Atlantico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) has made a cultural visit to Santillana del Mar and the emblematic Altamira Caves, in an activity coordinated by the International Relations Office (ORI).
The aim of the day was to promote knowledge of the historical and cultural heritage of Cantabria among students from different countries, who were able to see first-hand one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
During the visit, the students toured the Altamira Museum and the Neocueva, an exact reproduction of the original cave, where they saw the famous cave paintings dating from the Upper Palaeolithic. Afterwards, they enjoyed a walk through the historic centre of Santillana del Mar, one of the best preserved medieval towns in Spain.
This initiative is part of the programme of cultural integration activities organised by the ORI, with the aim of offering international students a more enriching experience during their stay in Cantabria.
