Today, Monday, begins the first edition of the Pan American Debate League of the European University of the Atlantic, which will be carried out in virtual format with the participation of six schools; El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala and Panama.
The competition has been organized by UNEATLANTICO professors Araceli Alonso, Inna Alexeeva and Manuel Rodriguez. Prior to the League, the students from the different schools also received a training course from oratory experts.
Thus, the following are the schools and teams that were proclaimed winners of the national leagues and will therefore represent their respective countries:
- Dominican Republic: Domínico Americano School (Team B)
- El Salvador: Bautista Sonsonate (Maquilishuat)
- Ecuador: Instituto Particular Abdón Calderón-IPAC (La Cátedra)
- México: Castlefield (Ecocuaches Team)
- Guatemala: Village School (Village School)
- Panama: Academia Internacional Boquete (La Neurona Intranquila)
Three debate sessions will be held in this regard. The first will be held at 4:00 p.m. and will pit the Domínico Americano School and Bautista Sonsonate against each other. The second session will begin at 5:00 pm with the participation of the Abdón Calderón-IPAC Private Institute and Castlefield School. And lastly, the Village School and the Boquete International Academy will face-off during the third session at 18:00.
The topic that students will discuss in this league is: “Immigrants from countries in armed conflict deserve an assured welcome».
The final debate will take place on Wednesday, December 16, with the two finalist teams.
