Jorge Crespo Álvarez, PhD in Civil Engineering and academic director of the degree in Industrial Organization Engineering (IOI) at the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), participates in the research project “Technologies for dynamic modeling of students and digital assistants for the improvement of results in e-learning platforms” WITH_YOU (2022-2025).
The main objective of this project is to offer support to students who take training programs through virtual learning environments: “The problem with master’s degrees and when they are taken online is that the student often has the perception that he or she is alone, that is, that he or she does not have the feedback. It’s not like being in a classroom, where you have your classmates and you interact with them”.
The statistical part is fundamental in this project, to capture and study the necessary data to discern which factors lead students to abandon their studies and to create prediction and association models.
The UNEATLANTICO teacher was interested in mathematics from a very young age, which led his teachers to promote his talent, encouraging him to participate in competitions and to seek new academic challenges.
Despite the use of artificial intelligence tools in the project, the teacher recalls that this approach still relies on human support by “treating people from other people so that they feel accompanied”.
The company Editores y Consultores Especializados (ECE) is leading the project, with the participation of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLANTICO) and the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC).
The initiative is framed within the state research plan 2021-2023 within the call for Public-Private Collaboration Projects 2021.
