On March 21, the first university badminton tournament was held at the facilities of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO). This tournament was organized by the university’s Sports Service (SAFD) in conjunction with the Federación Cántabra de Bádminton (Cantabrian Badminton Federation), an institution that UNEATLANTICO has close ties with since the signing of a collaboration agreement. The finalists, Alejandro Juárez and Daniel Fernández, will have the honor of representing UNEATLANTICO in the Campeonato de España Universitario (CEU, University Badminton Championship) .
The competition took place at the sports center. It began with the group stage and was followed by the semifinals. Finally, the best of 5 sets of 11 points were played and Daniel Fernandez was proclaimed winner of the first badminton tournament. In second place was Alejandro Juárez. Both finalists will have the opportunity to compete in this sport on behalf of UNEATLANTICO, during the Spanish University Championship.
Before this competition, on March 11, an instructive and practical session of badminton was held, taught by Enrique Javier Ruiz, coach and member of the Federación Cántabra de Bádminton. This session was open to the entire student body with the objective of teaching more about the sport and motivating students to participate in this first competition at the university level.
