Carlota González, a fourth year student of the degree in Sport and Exercise Science and goalkeeper of UNEATLANTICO Pereda, trained with “Las Guerreras” (The Warriors) during the stay of the national team in Santander for the dispute of the Torneo Internacional de España 2023 (International Tournament of Spain 2023).
The student of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), Carlota González, wears yellow every weekend to defend the Pereda’s net, a team whose main sponsor is this same University, and has been international in all the lower categories of the Spanish national team. However, last week she lived a very special day in the 40×20: a training session with the Spanish senior handball team at the Palacio de Deportes de Santander (Sports Palace of Santander).
t”Las Guerreras” dispute from this week the World Championship, which is hosted by Denmark, Norway, and Sweden; and by the hand of the coach Ambros Martin, they have visited Santander for the dispute of a quadrangular preparation. The national team lost to Japan but defeated Argentina and Serbia, and Carlota Gonzalez was present in those preparation days.
“The truth is that I wasn’t nervous because I knew several players,” confesses Carlota Gonzalez, who will be only 21 years old next December. She came to the Universidad Europea del Atlántico from the Community of Madrid, is enjoying her university career, and is already looking forward to being able to say that she is a graduate.
“I am very grateful to the coach and the staff because they gave me a very good welcome and also some very valuable advice,” she says. The goalkeeper also valued very positively the level of the Spanish national team’s goalkeeping. Last week Merche Castellanos took rest in the exercises, whom she praised along with her partner in goal, Darly Zoqbi.
Despite her youth, the student has the consideration of the national team and is working hard to make the leap to the elite in the future. At the moment, she competes in the División de Honor Oro Femenina (Women’s Gold Honor Division), the second category of Spanish handball, and in the UNEATLANTICO Pereda, the most representative of women’s handball in the community that this year wants to fight for something more than permanence.
After this award, Carlota González is already looking ahead to the league championship after a two-week break, during which UNEATLANTICO Pereda was also congratulated by the presence of another goalkeeper, Marian Mera, in the ranks of the Spanish Junior national team, which beat Italy and qualified for the 2024 World Cup.
This weekend, the UNEATLANTICO Pereda receives the Morvedre, leader of the competition, and an excellent opportunity to attend on Saturday, at 7:00 p.m., the Pabellón Exterior de la Albericia (Albericia Outdoor Pavilion) to encourage the girls in yellow. Under the poles will be the girl of this past week’s movie, the student of UNEATLANTICO: Carlota González.
