Students of the of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), participate in an inclusive activity developed in the sports facilities of the university campus in collaboration with AMPROS, the Cantabrian Association for People with Intellectual Disabilities (Asociación Cántabra en Favor de las Personas con Discapacidad Intelectual).
This internship has been developed within the framework of the subject “Inclusive Physical Education”, taught by Dr. Martín Barcala. In addition, Alma Cuesta López, head of the physical-sports activities sector of the association, was part of the event.
The main objective of this activity was to design and implement a physical-sports didactic proposal with the necessary adaptations to cater for diversity and include people with intellectual disabilities.
In this context, adapted sports games inspired by handball and soccer were carried out, in which students from the degree program participated, in a mixed format, together with individuals with intellectual disabilities from AMPROS occupational centers.
According to Professor Barcala, the activity has been a resounding success, highlighting the active participation of all those involved and how they managed to overcome stereotypes, adapting perfectly to the proposed activities.
Last October, the students of the degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences attended a talk by the AMPROS association at the University’s auditorium. The objective of this meeting was to raise awareness of the entities and job opportunities that exist in the area, as well as the importance of participating directly and indirectly in them.
