The team Argumenta2 squared, made up of Julia Sierra Rosales, Emma Madrazo Pereira, Eduardo Martin Gutiérrez and Paula Choque Yuyas, students from Castroverde School and accompanied by their tutor, Irene Argüello, were the winners of the VIII Pre-University Debate League organised by the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO) and will be responsible for representing Cantabria in the Spanish Pre-University Debate Championship, organised by the Spanish University Debate League.
The activity was held between 10 and 18 February on campus, in the afternoon, with the participation of fifteen teams and around a hundred students from the Torrevelo-Peñalabra, IES Fuente Fresnedo, IES La Marina, and Castroverde schools.
After some intense debate sessions, Ágora, the team representing Torrevelo-Peñalabra, came fourth. Ágora verde, the Castroverde team, came in third place. To conclude with the VIII edition of the UNEATLANTICO Debate League, in a close final, Argumenta2 squared (Castroverde) was proclaimed winner of this league, while Debates de Béisbol (Torrevelo-Peñalabra), was positioned as the second best team of this league.
In addition to awarding prizes to the two finalist teams -Argumenta2 squared and Debates de Béisbol-, the jury and organising committee awarded Genoveva Gómez Fernández, from Castroverde School, the prize for Best Speaker for her outstanding participation during the entire edition. The awards ceremony was presided over by Luis Eduardo Prado, director of the Debate League, who thanked ‘all the schools and institutes for their participation. We look forward to their participation in the next edition of our traditional Debate League’. Finally, the judges of the final were the captains of the last three winning teams of the University Debate League: Paula Díaz-Velarde, Marcelo Solís and Hector Diego Somonte.
