UNEATLANTICO hosts the 2022 CIAAC with 172 participating companies and renowned international speakers
International experts and companies participated in the 2022 International Climate Action Congress.

On 7 and 8 July, the assembly hall of the European University of the Atlantic will host the 2022 International Climate Action Congress (CIACC), organised by the Fundación Empresa y Clima, together with UNEATLANTICO and the Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (FUNIBER) and sponsored by FLUIDRA, Banco Santander, AON and Central Lechera Asturiana.

The congress will be made up of four sessions with the participation of renowned international speakers and companies such as Ferrovial, EV Cargo, Baleària, 3M, Global Omnium, Strive, Cementos Molins and Eurecat, among others. Youssef Nassef, Director of Climate Adaptation at the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat. Amjad Abdulla, Vice President Group III IPPC. Head of Partnership of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); Amr Essam of the COP27 Presidency Team and member of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In parallel to this, a press conference was held on 6 July, attended by the Mayor of the city, Gema Igual; the Director of the Business and Climate Foundation, Elvira Carles; the Rector of UNEATLANTICO, Rubén Calderón; the Global HR-ESG Director at FLUIDRA, Amalia Santallusia; the Territorial Business and Institutions Commercial Director of Cantabria and Asturias, Oscar Sánchez; the CEO of Aon Iberia, Africa and Israel, Pedro Penalva and the Transformation Director of Central Lechera Asturiana, Raquel López.

First of all, the mayoress of Santander pointed out the magnitude of this congress, which has 204 people registered and 172 companies from 14 different countries. For his part, the rector of UNEATLANTICO, referred to the work and commitment of the University since its foundation in 2013, highlighting “the economic impact of its creation at regional level and the holding of congresses”.

On the same day, the inauguration of 2022 CIACC took place with a gala dinner held at the Gran Casino Sardinero in Santander, which was attended by authorities from the region.

Thus, the first session of the congress took place today in the UNEATLANTICO Assembly Hall under the name “Roadmap for biofuels and biomaterials. How we can decarbonise our supply chains or value chain”. Finally, the afternoon session will be held under the title “Loss and damage financing. Climate justice and ‘loss and damage’ as principles that should guide the response to climate emergency”.
